I’ve been neglecting this blog for a little while now. I’m sorry about that but remember, this is just something I do for fun so I’m not promising regular updates. What I’ve been doing while I’ve been away is working hard on a new affiliate website. I’m actually very proud of it despite not making a penny from it yet. I’ve been working on getting a good lot of search traffic and I’m now ranking top on Google for the most competitive keyword I’ve ever gone for. It’s been a lot of hard work but I’m sure it will pay off.

I’ve been working on a new affiliate site. I’m pretty excited about it. Yesterday it was my second most visited site a nd it’s only been running for two months. I’m not making any money from it yet, just trying to make it popular. Anyway, I thought I’d share my plan of how I’m going to get more links.

Sorry, I’m not showing where I’m planning on getting the links from. I just wanted to let you see I’m not planning on getting all my links at once and that it’s a good idea to make a plan.

This interesting post clearly shows that blogs with lots of pictures, videos and lists attract more attention that those with just text. I’m sorry my blog currently looks so boring. I’m going to do something about it:

I’m going to include more pictures.

One day I’m going to put a picture in every post just to make it look nicer (even if it’s not entirely necessary).

He’s a little graph I knocked together to show how you can expect your affiliate sales to go over Christmas. This is basically my Amazon sales from last Christmas. Obviously it isn’t going to match for ever market but it might give you an idea. I was mostly promoting a baby toy and a video game thingy (I’m not using the word “thingy” to imply a lack of knowledge on the subject, but just to be vague). It’s interesting to see that by far the best week for sales is the week around New Year’s Day.

My top 5 days of the festive period were:
29th
27th
30th
26th
28th
Surprisingly these are all after Christmas Day. So the fun only really begins on Boxing Day. The best day before Christmas Day was the 15th.

Sorry, I’m so busy it’s the first time I’ve been a day late with one of my reviews which I said I’d do every Thursday (but I’m sure you’ll get over it). There’s so much to do at Christmas and I always wish I’d started working on my Christmas projects a month before I did.

I do love Christmas though. The excitement on children’s faces, the family getting together, Christmas specials on TV, the joy of giving, the revenue on affiliate websites increasing by 200% and… er, advent calendars.

On my main affiliate cash cow I’m earning double what I earned last month. On my Amazon affiliate account I’m earning 3 times as much as last month. It might not be entirely down to the festive season. My search ranking have also improved slightly.

Where was I going with this? Nowhere. I should really just take my dog for a walk.

As an affiliate marketer, starting a website without spending hours researching keywords doesn’t feel very natural. For once I’m building a site (this one) without the goal being to make money. A search for “affiliate marketing blog” shows me the market is too competitive for that anyway. So this blog is really just for communicating my affiliate thoughts… hmm that could be a good domain name.

Occasionally I discover something or have an “interesting” thought related to affiliate marketing that I want to tell people, but I doubt my friends are interested in things like how turning a website’s logo upside down can increase conversion rates by an extra 0.5%. So this blog should help me get things like that off my chest.

This is going to be a no BS blog. There won’t be any tales of how I make $100,000 a day and will sell you the secret for $79.95. I won’t exaggerate my earnings or charge anyone for advice.

I hate bullshit like this so you won't find it here. Thanks to Mindvalley Labs for the providing this example.

I don’t make $100,000 a day but I do live off affiliate marketing. My proudest affiliate achievement is a period which peaked with me earning over £1000 commission in a day. I’m not making anything like that at the minute (affiliate marketing has its ups and downs) but I am able to work whatever hours I choose from anywhere I can plug my laptop in.

I’m far from an affiliate marketing millionaire but I could help you learn how to make a living from the Internet without the risks of starting a traditional business. With affiliate marketing you’re risking your free time more than your money.

There will be affiliate links on Affiliate Thinking… hold on what’s site called again? Affiliate Thoughts will have affiliate links but I’ll make them obvious by marking them with a *. If you’d prefer not to help me out (because you don’t trust me or something) then you’re free to just go directly to the website without clicking my link. If you do click on the link, you can feel good that a little bit of the money that would usually go to the share holders of large corporations will instead go to me and encourage me to write more crap in my blog. If you do click on my affiliate links and buy from them, thank you very much.

Affiliate links aren’t the main point of this site, as I said, it’s mainly to get things off my chest and to help people out. Maybe karma will bring people to help me out too.
